Online Safety Consultation

Closes 20 Dec 2024

Opened 7 Dec 2021

Overview

Internet use in Australia is higher than ever. Most Australians spend a huge amount of time online and enjoy using social media and accessing the internet through mobile devices.

The internet has transformed our lives and can be a powerful force for good, however there is also a large amount of illegal and harmful content and activity online. Social media in particular can be a dangerous place, particularly for young people and other vulnerable groups.

We need to make the internet a safer place for all.

The purpose of this consultation is to gather the views of internet users, businesses and interested organisations in order to create appropriate policy and legislation to improve user safety whilst also preserving freedom of expression online.
