The education authority, in collaboration with [School Name]'s Board, is in the process of developing a new enrolment scheme.

The primary objective of implementing an enrolment scheme is to support the school Board in mitigating the risk of overcrowding, ensuring a fair and transparent enrolment process, and optimising the utilisation of educational facilities across the local school network. For detailed information on the purpose and principles of an enrolment scheme, please refer to [this document].

It is essential to note that enrolment schemes grant families the right to attend a school that is reasonably convenient for them; however, it does not guarantee the same entitlement to enrol at all state schools. Existing students enrolled before the implementation or alteration of a home zone retain the right to continue attending their current school.

This consultation specifically pertains to enrolment schemes, determining enrolment entitlements. It is important to differentiate between a student's eligibility to enrol and their eligibility for School Transport assistance. Additional information regarding School Transport eligibility can be found here.

Details of the proposed enrolment scheme map, written description, and factsheet for [School Name] can be accessed in the attached files at the bottom of this page (please review these documents before participating in the consultation).

The Ministry of Education is actively seeking input on the new enrolment scheme through the following avenues:

  1. Completing the survey provided below.
  2. Emailing [demo-department]@education.govt.nz for additional questions or comments.

Please be aware that submissions made during this process become official information and may be requested under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). If you have objections to the release of specific information from your submission, kindly notify us, specifying the part(s) to be withheld and the reason. Objections may include considerations of commercial sensitivity or personal information. The Ministry will take these objections into account when responding to OIA requests. However, any decision to withhold information can be reviewed by the Ombudsman.
